Aims & Scope
Journal of Material Sciences (Maters) is a peer-reviewed journal dedicated to the publication of high-quality research in materials science and related interdisciplinary fields. The journal provides an international forum for researchers, scientists, engineers, and practitioners to disseminate advances in the design, synthesis, characterization, processing, modeling, properties, performance, and technological applications of materials.
The journal covers experimental, theoretical, and computational research that contributes to a deeper understanding of the relationships between material composition, structure, properties, processing, and performance. Particular emphasis is placed on studies that demonstrate clear scientific methodologies, comprehensive characterization, reliable experimental or computational validation, and significant contributions to the development or application of materials.
Maters encourages interdisciplinary research that connects fundamental materials science with practical applications. This includes the development of new materials, modification and improvement of existing materials, investigation of material properties and degradation mechanisms, advanced characterization techniques, computational materials modeling, optimization of processing parameters, and evaluation of materials under realistic operating conditions.
The scope of Maters encompasses, but is not limited to:
- Advanced and functional materials
- Nanomaterials and nanostructured materials
- Metals, alloys, and metallurgical materials
- Polymers and polymer-based materials
- Composite and hybrid materials
- Ceramics, glasses, and inorganic materials

- Additive manufacturing and advanced manufacturing of materials
- Materials performance, reliability, and failure analysis
The journal welcomes original research articles, review articles, and well-structured case studies that provide scientifically supported contributions to materials science. Studies may address the development of novel materials, modification of material composition or structure, improvement of material properties, development of synthesis or processing methods, advanced characterization, computational prediction, or the application of existing materials under new operating conditions.
Experimental studies are expected to provide appropriate characterization and quantitative evaluation of material properties. Computational and theoretical studies should include appropriate model formulation, assumptions, validation, or comparison with experimental or previously established results where applicable. Research combining experimental and computational approaches is particularly relevant when it provides additional insight into material behavior and underlying mechanisms.
Maters aims to strengthen the connection between fundamental materials science and technological applications. Therefore, manuscripts should clearly identify the materials-related scientific problem, describe the methodology and characterization or modeling procedures, and provide adequate analysis of the obtained results. Studies consisting solely of material applications or product implementation without sufficient investigation of material properties, mechanisms, characterization, or scientific contribution are generally outside the primary scope of the journal.
