Instructions for Authors

Authors are invited to submit original and high-quality manuscripts that fall within the aims and scope of Journal of Material Science. All manuscripts should present scientifically sound research, clearly describe the methodology employed, and provide sufficient analysis and discussion to support the conclusions.


1. Manuscript Submission

Manuscripts must be submitted electronically through the Hypotheza online submission system at Submit Manuscript Button. The corresponding author is responsible for the submission process and for all communication with the editorial office during peer review and publication.

The corresponding author should ensure that all listed authors have reviewed and approved the manuscript and have agreed to its submission to MATERS.


2. Manuscript Preparation and Formatting

Manuscripts should be prepared using the Hypotheza Double-column manuscript template. The manuscript should be written in clear academic English and organized systematically according to the nature of the study.

The general structure of a manuscript should include:

  1. Abstract
  2. Graphical Abstract, where applicable
  3. Keywords
  4. Introduction
  5. Literature Review or Background, where applicable
  6. Materials and Methods / Methodology
  7. Results
  8. Discussion
  9. Conclusions
  10. Declaration of Competing Interest
  11. Data Availability
  12. Acknowledgments, where applicable
  13. Appendix, where applicable
  14. References

The structure of the main numbered sections may be adapted to the nature of the research. Authors may use specific section titles that better represent the content of their study. For example, a review or bibliometric study may use sections such as Literature Review, Bibliometric Analysis, Content Analysis, and Discussion instead of the conventional Materials and Methods and Results structure.

Subsections may be used where necessary and should follow a consistent hierarchical numbering system (e.g., 2.1, 2.2, 2.2.1).

Manuscripts should normally not exceed 30 pages, including figures, tables, appendices, and references. Authors should provide sufficient methodological and analytical information to ensure that the research can be properly evaluated and, where applicable, reproduced.


3. File Requirements

Authors should submit both a PDF version of the manuscript and an editable source file in Microsoft Word (.docx) or LaTeX format.

Figures should have sufficient resolution for scientific publication, and all figures and tables must be numbered and cited sequentially in the manuscript. Mathematical equations, symbols, units, and nomenclature should follow internationally recognized conventions.

Submitted files may undergo automated technical and security validation before entering the editorial process.


4. Originality and Publication Ethics

Submitted manuscripts must represent original work that has not been previously published and is not simultaneously under consideration by another journal.

Authors are responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of their research, including experimental data, figures, tables, citations, and other materials presented in the manuscript. Fabrication, falsification, plagiarism, inappropriate manipulation of images or data, and other forms of research misconduct are not permitted.

Any potential conflicts of interest and sources of research funding should be clearly disclosed.


5. Peer Review Process

All research manuscripts submitted to IJMS undergo an initial editorial assessment to determine their suitability for the journal's aims and scope and their compliance with basic scientific and editorial requirements.

Manuscripts that pass the initial assessment will undergo double-blind peer review, in which the identities of both authors and reviewers are concealed during the review process.

Reviewers evaluate manuscripts based on scientific quality, methodological soundness, clarity of presentation, relevance to materials science, validity of the results, and the extent to which the conclusions are supported by the evidence presented.

Following peer review, an editorial decision may include acceptance, minor revision, major revision, or rejection.


6. Revision of Manuscripts

When revisions are requested, authors should submit a revised manuscript together with a detailed response to the reviewers. Each reviewer comment should be addressed clearly, and significant modifications to the manuscript should be identified.

Authors who disagree with a reviewer recommendation should provide a concise scientific justification in their response rather than leaving the comment unanswered.


7. References

References should be accurate, complete, and relevant to the research presented. Authors are responsible for verifying all bibliographic information before submission.

References should be numbered according to their order of appearance in the manuscript and cited in the text using numerical citations, for example [1], [2], or [3–5].

Authors are encouraged to cite original and primary research sources where appropriate rather than relying excessively on secondary references.


8. Figures, Tables, and Research Data

Figures and tables should provide information that contributes directly to the scientific content of the manuscript. Duplication of the same results in both graphical and tabular forms should be avoided unless scientifically necessary.

Authors should retain the original research data supporting the results presented in the manuscript. Where appropriate, authors are encouraged to make supporting datasets available through recognized repositories or provide sufficient information regarding data availability.


9. Use of Artificial Intelligence

Generative artificial intelligence and AI-assisted technologies should not be listed as authors. Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, integrity, and appropriate referencing of all content included in their manuscripts.

The use of AI-assisted tools for language improvement should not replace the authors' responsibility for scientific reasoning, data interpretation, analysis, or conclusions.


10. Copyright and Open Access

Articles accepted for publication in MATERS are published under the journal's open-access policy. Authors should ensure that any copyrighted material reproduced from other sources has the necessary permission prior to publication.
